Worth knowing from Ann Louis

My interest in the history of regions and cultural landscapes as well as in the people behind them – in language, reading and writing – is the reason why I studied journalism many years ago and why I am writing about wine, culture, travel, food & drinks. My motivation is to convey my enthusiasm to other people. That is why I am guiding Würzburg visitors through „my city“ as a tour guide and why I am wandering through the vineyards and wine cellars of Franconia‘s wine country as a wine guide or I am hosting wine tastings. Variety and change are part of my life. Always a little restless, searching – with many ideas. I have accepted that it is this tension that makes me happy and inspires me to continue on my path.

Roses in the vineyard: Beautiful and really useful

In summer, flowering roses are a real feast for the eyes in our vineyards. However, they are not planted for the delight of flower lovers, but rather as indirect protection for the vines. They indicate the danger of mildew. It is hard to say what I prefer: the...

A first look at the 2020 vintage

The wine is still sitting in barrels, but it will soon be time to bottle the 2020 vintage. The Traminer was harvested measuring 98 Oechsle and outstanding grape quality. The Dornfelder still made it into the wine cellar at 85 Oechsle. The late frost in May meant this...
